Kinfolk Character Creation
The following character creation rules should be used when making a character for this chat. This guide has been written to ensure that all characters are appropriate for both the theme and rules of this chat. Rules for character creation start on page 47. If you have questions regarding character creation or character concepts, please contact a storyteller for assistance.
Campaign Source Books
All information found in Werewolf campaign books and supplements take precedence over information found in other books. All game rules are taken from the revised edition, unless no suitable alternative can be found. All players need a copy of Kinfolk: Unsung Heroes to play in this venue – all other Werewolf books are strictly optional. If you wish to use material from an optional source book, you must possess a legal copy of the book. In all cases storyteller judgment and chat rules take precedence over rules printed in any source book.
Material Restrictions Key
All material on this chat has been carefully balanced and considered for the fun and enjoyment of all players. No material has been banned or restricted for an arbitrary reason.
This chat uses three levels of restriction.
Allowed: Material that is allowed may be used freely and without any sort of storyteller permission beyond normal storyteller prerogative.
Restricted: Material that is restricted requires extensive reasoning and a submitted character background for approval and use. Storytellers may choose to disallow any restricted material without explanation (though an explanation will usually be given).
Banned: Material that is banned is unsuitable either for online play or the venue itself. No players may use banned material.
Step One: Concept
There will be NO "lost" concepts. No lost kin, semi-lost kin, or anything of that ilk.
Also banned are the kin-mage concepts. Sorry, they will not be allowed here.
The first thing you must consider when creating a character is your character concept. You should be able to express your character concept in a few words or a short phrase at most. This is the idea that you will build the rest of your character around, so take your time thinking of a concept. If you have trouble thinking of a concept, please see our concept page or contact a storyteller for assistance.
Next you must choose your tribe. This selection should be informed by your concept, or vice versa. Storytellers reserve the right to disallow any combination of tribe and concept.
Restrictions
The following material has been restricted on this chat.
Lupus: Banned
Red Talons: Banned
Silver Fangs: Restricted (All Silver Fang characters require a submitted background for approval).
Step Two: Select Attributes
Select your attributes as befitting your concept and breed. Please note that no character may begin with an attribute of 5 and no more than one attribute at 4. Remember to record any applicable specialties in the proper area.
Step Three: Select Abilities
Select your abilities as befitting your concept and tribe. Please note that no ability can be higher than 3 without spending freebie points. No character may begin with an ability higher than 4 at character creation.
Combat abilities (combination of Brawl, Dodge, Melee, Firearms) are capped at 6 dots at character creation. More rarely, a max of 7 dots MIGHT be granted due to background justification or to support certain unique concepts, at ST discretion.
Restrictions
The following material has been restricted on this chat. Please note that you may not possess any ability not found in the Werewolf core books (such as Awareness of Kenning). In addition, any ability outside the realm of common sense will not be allowed (such as a Bone Gnawer with Finance 4 or a Lupus with Computer 3).
Demolitions: Restricted.
Garou Lore: All kinfolk characters start with one free dot of Garou lore.
Poisons: Restricted.
Wyrm Lore: Restricted.
Weaver Lore: Restricted
Equipment: Capped at 2 during character creation.
Favors: Banned during character creation.
Influence: Capped at 5 but all influences need to be explained in background as well in a history of how they were gained.
Numen: Restricted (submitted background required) and capped at 2 for all characters.
Pure Breed: All characters with pure breed higher than 1 must submit a background detailing their family history before sanctioning. Pure breed is capped at 3 for any tribe except Silver Fangs.
Renown: Banned at character creation.
Spirit Heritage: Kinfolk may not take this background.
Step Five: Finishing Touches
Record your starting Willpower (3), which is capped at 5 at character creation. Spend your freebie points as best befits your character concept.
Merit and Flaw Restrictions
Kinfolk: Unsung Heroes
The following merits and flaws are either restricted or banned on this chat.
Restricted: Barren/Sterile, Gall, Gnosis
Banned: Fetish, Supernatural Kinfolk, Wyrm-Tainted
